Welcome to The Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge Application Process!

The Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts partnering with the American Theatre Wing and in collaboration with Playbill, Inc. and Disney Theatrical Productions. The Songwriting Challenge is a national competition for high school students who have a passion for writing songs that could be part of a musical theater production. This program offers six semi-finalists mentorship opportunities with professional songwriters and musicians and the opportunity to have an original song performed by those musicians.

The National Champion will be awarded a scholarship of $25,000 and all six finalists will have their song published by Samuel French. The application portal opens on October 2, 2017 and must be submitted by January 5, 2018. Six regional semi-finalists will be announced in February and the national competition among the six regional semi-finalists will be held in April in New York City.
